Palais Royal
The designs of the cartels evoke the manners of the "Incroyables" and the "Merveilleuses" eccentric youth of Paris under the Directoire period. They are inspired by an etching by Louis Carrogis dit Carmontelle (1795-1799). All the characters and foliages are enhanced by hand before being painted with colored enamels and powdered with pure gold.
