In the wake of the Louis Vuitton Travel Book Mediterranean Sea published in 2022, Aurore de la Morinerie continues her dive into the oceans at the invitation of la Maison Raynaud.
The theme of the sea lends itself wonderfully to tableware, and Aurore drew her inspiration from her love of nature, flora and fauna, and travel.
The Abysses collection takes us on an imaginary journey through the currents, plunging us into this little-known and invisible underwater world, with its incredible wealth of life.
Between delicacy and elegance
To enhance the aquatic and lively dimension she wanted to give to this collection, Aurore de la Morinerie worked with a brush – her gesture translating the movements of ocean currents and depths, to reveal the light.
Using the interplay of fullness and space, deep blues, indigo and ink let the Limoges porcelain’s pure white shine through.
"Porcelain is a wonderful medium for brush drawing – it's faithful to the paper, and its glazed whiteness gives even more depth to the range of blues I like to work with." Aurore de la Morinerie.
Into the abyssal depths...
Blending her Western and Eastern influences, Aurore has designed the pieces for the Abysses collection in such a way that they form an international table, between tradition and modernity – also a symbol of the collaboration between an artist and a house with unique skills, which is keen to explore new techniques.
"The brushstroke is more diffuse than a pen-and-ink drawing, and it was important to me to feel the material and the colours gradients. The chromists carried out a lot of tests and together we pushed back the limits of the technique. They did a fantastic job." Aurore de la Morinerie.
